Best of 2016 - How I Fared in Blogging This Year

2016 has been a crazy, wonderful, wonderfully crazy, crazily wonderful year. I say this every year, but I really can't believe how fast the year went! To think that at the beginning of this year I was e-x-t-r-e-m-e-l-y naive about diversity, feminism and racism is bizarre. I was. If there's one thing I'm glad about this year, it is because it rekindled the fire in me. And the reason? It's all because of blogging. The book community literally changed me and I couldn't be more thankful about it. Sure, there are times when there is too much drama, hate and negativity around, but at the end of the day, we are all here for the love of books and that's the best thing in the world!

Oh, but I digress gloriously, don't I? Today's post is to highlight all the best bits of blogging for me this year! I'll take some time to bring to you the very best of blogging in 2016, and bear with me while I indulge in some self-praise. Thank you!

Crazy Good Books I Read in 2016

HI ALL OF YOU, GORGEOUS PEOPLE.  I'm here with some crazily, unbelievably awesome books today - THE BEST I'VE READ IN 2016. Is that exciting, or what??

I've read 179 books, with the average rating of 3.9, so I think I can say 2016 was a good year for me reading wise. I found tons of new favorites, including Cat Winters and Simone St. James, and finally managed to finish the Psy-Changeling series, and became incredibly obsessed with it - like, so much so that I reread some of the novels around five times this year. #crazy

And yeah, I encountered with plenty of books that greatly disappointed me, but the highlights of the year way over-shine these any day.

Here's what has happened in my 2016 recap so far:

Biggest Pleasant Surprises of 2016

Hi loves! Today's Top Ten Tuesday (weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookishtopic is all about our 2016 faves. As I'm starting to feel really bad about cheating nearly every week with the number of picks, this week I'm totally sticking to 10. *nods*

As choosing 10 faves (even narrowed down to certain genres or categories) is basically impossible, given that I read 150+ & loved more than half of them, I'm going to list 10 of the biggest PLEASENT surprises of novels I read in 2016.

This list was made at the end of October, any book read after that date is NOT included!

Book Characters Who Slayed My Life in 2016

Hello sweeties! First of all -

MERRY CHRISTMAS, YA'LL!

Hope all of you will have a wonderful time this holiday season with cool presents, great food, BOOKS, your loveliest relatives (if there's such a thing) and/or friends. (Maybe even snow? Though, bruh, I hate it, despite how pretty it *can* be... from the inside. Emphasize on "can" here.)

As for today's end of the year summary post, I'm going to talk about the bestest characters I've encountered with this year, all of whom - be killers or non-killers - are precious diamonds, who should be protected at all costs. DON'T EVEN SAY OTHERWISE, OR ELSE...

No, I'm joking, I'll definitely hear out why you didn't like these perfect little nuggets. Yeah, totally. *cold smile*

Here's a little info on what these 4 posts are about and why I decided to write them:

Let's not lie, 2016 was a pretty shitty year for various reasons, but I'm not here to talk about any of those, nuh-huh. Christmas and the new year are rapidly approaching and we need some positivity in our lives, which, in my book, means that I'll try to cheer you all up with some crazy fangirling. Makes so much sense, I know. *nods*

In these 4 posts - including this lovely here - I'm going to share with you stuff that made me smile, beam, laugh etc. etc. etc. in 2016, and, of course, I'm hoping they'll have the same effect on you. Oh, and WE SHALL BOND OVER ARE COMMON FAVES AND OBSESSIONS, 'KAY?

Here's what's to come & what's happened so far:
  • December 10: Most Gorgeous YA Book Covers of 2016
  • December 15: Killers Songs & Albums of 2016
  • December 29:  Crazy Good Books Read in 2016

Best of 2016 - What Reading Meant for Me This Year

Now that I've shown you guys all the wonderful books and authors I discovered this year, let's see how 2016 was for me, reading-wise in general, because you guys obviously need to hear about all the wonderful stuff this year meant for me, even though it was an equally shitty year as well.

Anyhoo, in today's post, I'll just be highlighting everything reading-wise I did that stands out from my normal routine, or things that just are worth mentioning. I won't be looking at all the books I read of course-you can check them out here, if interested. Without further ado, let's begin!

Dearest Santa, Bring Me These Books... OR ELSE

Hello everyone! There are 4 days for Christmas Eve when we, Hungarians, receive our presents. Eep, I'm SO EXCITED to see what I'll receive and how people will react to the gifts I picked out for them.

If you still need ideas, check out my Holiday Gift Guide for Booklovers!

But back to today's Top Ten Tuesday (a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) topic - it's all about wistful thinking, a.k.a. some books I wouldn't mind Santa leaving under my Christmas tree. (Or, in my case, the angels, because they bring Christmas presents in Hungary, while Santa arrives on the 6th of December, mostly with chocolate, not big presents.)

Best of 2016 - Authors Who Swept Me Off My Feet

This is no doubt a golden age for YA literature, with books of various genres seeing daylight everyday. Out of all the authors I've come across this year, I'll be highlighting a few who I wouldn't hesitate to swear by in today's post. These authors all managed to impress me right away, so much so that I had to check out other works by them or wait in anticipation for their next to come and slay me.

10 + 1 Killer Artists I've Been OBSESSED with in 2016

Hello to all of you, lovely people! Today's post surprisingly isn't book related - I'm sharing the artists I've been obsessed with in 2016. I'll be concentrating on those who released at least one new song this year to stop this list from becoming a mile long.

Here's a short description of what are these posts and why I decided to write them:

Fantastic AF Books Released in the First Half of 2017

Hi everyone. Today's Top Ten Tuesday (a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookishtopic is Top Ten Books I'm looking forward to in the first half of 2017. As there are waaay more than ten books I'm looking forward to, I decided to cheat (again) and add as many as I want to to this list. And thus, this becomes a handy guide to new releases in the first half of 2017 - great, right?

*covers lead to Goodreads*

List was made more than a month prior to being published - I apologize for any change in pub dates since then.

Most Gorgeous YA Book Covers of 2016

Let's not lie, 2016 was a pretty shitty year for various reasons, but I'm not here to talk about any of those, nuh-huh. Christmas and the new year are rapidly approaching and we need some positivity in our lives, which, in my book, means that I'll try to cheer you all up with some crazy fangirling. Makes so much sense, I know. *nods*

In my next 4 posts - including this one lovely here - I'm going to share with you stuff that made me smile, beam, laugh etc. etc. etc. in 2016, and, of course, I'm hoping they'll have the same effect on you. Oh, and WE SHALL BOND OVER ARE COMMON FAVES AND OBSESSIONS, 'KAY?

Here's what else is to come:

  • December 15: Killer Songs & Albums of 2016
  • December 24: Book Characters Who Slayed My Life in 2016
  • December 29:  Crazy Good Books Read in 2016
Now, onto today's post - there's honestly not much to say about it, besides that it only contains 2016 releases that I either read or want to read. The reason I picked gorgeous book covers for one of the four posts is simple: they're damn pleasing to look at.

Best of 2016 - The Best of the Bestest Books

This year has been one of the weirdest ever- on one hand, it was everything I could hope for, yet on the other, it was one of the worst ever. Just last month stands testimony to why 2016 wouldn't be a year I'd particularly look back upon fondly. Skittles...rings a bell? Anyway, the rest of my posts for this month would focus only on  the best parts of 2016, which no doubt include books, books, and yet more books, because god knows we've had more than our share of negativity and disappointments this year.

Totally Kickass Authors I've Discovered in 2016

Hello loves. Today's Top Ten Tuesday (a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) topic is all about the awesome-souce authors I discovered in 2016. I was a tad bit afraid of this topic, thinking I wouldn't be able to find 10, but in the end I had a hard time picking *only* ten. #crazy

2016 has been a pretty good year reading-wise for me, if nothing else, the talented, new-to-me authors on this list showcase that. Let's take a look at them, shall we?

*in no particular order, because that was impossible*

Imani Josey - The Blazing Star

Sixteen-year-old Portia White is used to being overlooked—after all, her twin sister Alex is a literal genius.

But when Portia holds an Egyptian scarab beetle during history class, she takes center stage in a way she never expected: she faints. Upon waking, she is stronger, faster, and braver than before. And when she accidentally touches the scarab again?

She wakes up in ancient Egypt—her sister and an unwitting freshman in tow.

Great.

Mysterious and beautiful, Egypt is more than they could have ever imagined from their days in the classroom. History comes alive as the three teens realize that getting back to the present will be the most difficult thing they’ve ever done. Stalked by vicious monsters called Scorpions, every step in the right direction means a step closer to danger.

As Portia and the girls discover that they’re linked to the past by more than just chance, they have to decide what it truly means to be yourself, to love your sister, and to find your way home.
