Books I've Owned FOR THE LONGEST TIME, But Still Haven't Read

Hello, friends. Today, after weeks and weeks of no Top Ten Tuesday posts I am here with a new one - specifically, one that makes me want to crawl into a hole because THE SHAME is too much to bear. Yes, as seen in the title, I'm going to list some books - more than ten, because hahaha, of course I couldn't limit the number to that little - that I've owned for YEARS, and still haven't managed to read. Oh, and before we get started TTT is a weekly meme that is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl

Here's the thing, I love rereading books, but, somehow, when I *have to* reread something to be able to get to the sequel(s).... all the desire to reread said book disappears. I DON'T GET IT EITHER, DON'T ASK, PLS.

I've heard pretty cool things about these, but still... I'm unsure if they are for me. Smith's novels have disappointed me before, meanwhile I started Only Ever Yours and it didn't capture my attention. As for Ruta Sepetys's novels... the hype is scaring the crap out of me, to be honest.

Oh, but this is the saddest category! I fairly believe I'll enjoy these novels, but I never seem to be in the mood for them still, AND I HAVE NO REASON FOR THAT? I'm just literally NEVER in the mood for any of these, which is hella sad.

Ah, the series I keep putting aside for a time when I'll have enough time and patience for binge-reading. Aaand when I do have the time, I'm just... not in the mood for a binge. I KNOW, I AM A MESS, PLEASE, DON'T JUDGE.

Do you suffer from similar problems that I've listed? How do you deal with them? Have you read any of these books? Flailing about them is VERY welcomed here, because god knows I could use the motivation lol.

  1. Sinner was ok... it kinda didn’t feel truely apart of the Shiver series for me. But omg Between Shades of Gray is incredible!! You absolutely need to read it, if you like historical fiction (and I’m pretty sure you do), it brings a whole new tale on it and it’s so emotional! Ruta Sepetys definitely lives up to the hype in my opinion. Hope you’ll give it a shot, Veronika!

  2. Wow can I ever relate to "Book Amnesia" and "Never In The Mood". I think those are probably my two biggest issues when it comes to completing books on my TBR.

  3. yep i totally agree with the memory loss thing... i always go to recaptain which provides very thorough recap, however it's different from reading the book and i rarely remember the feelings i had when i read the book. i currently read never fade and i didn't enjoy it :( i also want to binge poison study, madman's daugther, and angelfall... i just could't find the right time!

  4. it's mostly 'book amnesia' that sort of turn into 'not in the mood' and that sort of led to 'not sure I'll like it' which led to a pile of books unread on my bedside table. sometimes expectations can be too high to enjoy a book.

apparently I'm one of the few that doesn't like reading a maggie stiefvater book & I sort of don't like book series. they should just considered releasing series all at once instead of making people wait for the next book. it's one reason I have almost always read a series only after their completion but who can really wait?

    have a lovely day.

  5. I'm the worst for this! I swear I have complete series on my shelves that've been sitting there unread for at least four years. *hangs head in shame*

Although I haven't finished the last book in the trilogy, I absolutely LOVED Angelfall. What an absolutely incredible book! Normally I'm not that into dystopian stories (or angels, tbh) but Susan Ee completely sold me on both. There's also a quite nuanced portrayal of schizophrenia in the series!

  6. Oh I get the series sentiments so well! Either I read them altogether, or I just abandon them. There's no in between.
I hope you take up Undomestic Goddess because it's so damn funny. Like laugh out loud funny. It's my favourite Sophie Kinsella book, and I can just think about some scenes and I would want to laugh.
And do give Angelfall and Poison Study a try. I haven't read their sequels either - I am so horrible at series - but both books are so good, you have to read them!

    Here is my list

  7. Ok while I have't read MOST of these books I must tell you: OMG YOU HAVE TO READ ANGELFALL!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ It's AMAZING, like one of the books I always recommend it and it has my favorite trope, the hate-to-love in this book is amazing!

  8. There are some titles (Angelfall, More Than This & Poison Study) which I haven't yet read and have been on my TBR for more than 2/3 years (yikes!) but to be honest, I'm not sure I'll get to them in the future. And I never read Never Fade because I thought The Darkest Minds was incredibly hyped up and it didn't deserve it. But that's just my opinion

  9. I love JES and The Geography of You and Me was adorably sweet. Moriarty is a favorite of mine, and the Husband's Secret probably has one of the best endings of all her books. My jaw was on the floor. It was brilliant! The Undomesticated Goddess was so fun. I am a Kinsella fangirl, but really, it was a delight. I am a fan of the Shatter Me books and cannot wait for the new ones!!!!

  10. Ooh The Madman's Daughter. Another book I kinda let slip away, never did read that one. And The Husband's secret was okay, I thought, but I read it right after reading Big Little Lies and it didn't quite live up to BLL. Of course BLL is a tough act to follow I think...

  11. I highly recommend Between Shades of Gray! It's a tragically beautiful story that left my emotions in a puddle on the floor. The author did a lot of research, some that even risked her life and safety, to make sure she captured the essence of that time.

  12. I loved The Bell Jar, it's such a thought provoking book and I would highly recommend reading it. I also haven't continued with the Darkest Minds trilogy yet because I really need to reread the first book in the series.
